WATERFRONT NATURE INTERPRETATIVE CENTRE
NATURALAND
The design concept for the building has been developed with the aim of creating an Interpretative Centre which immerses into nature.
The site has an outstanding view of the skyline of Toronto, as well as the best place for bird-watching in the city which located in-between two appointed VCP station. Trying to keep most of the existed greenery on site is a priority before located the proposed building, after identify the location of the greenery, trying to immerse both trail and the building with them on the selected site.
The building will be divided into three parts: the hostel, the office, and the exhibition area. They are connecting via the roof pathway. The functional area will be placed mostly on the second floor while the ground floor will mainly serve as an access and warehouse area and another pathway.
The building will be constructed from steel frames. It will be supported by rows of small section columns.
In order to get a clearest view, the glazed area should be as large as possible. The building shape resembles the passage of a bird, additionally, the building’s curvature is smooth and light, inspiring by the wings of a bird.
MATERAL PLAN
In order to bring this building closer to nature, all the materials and color, will be thin and coated with white color to make the feeling as light as possible.
However, the site location is the the middle spot between appointed VCP stations, adding some special textured on the clear glazed wall can protect birds from accidentally fly to hit the building but still provides a clean view which the concept need.
The textured glass facade can also reflect exterior landscape back extending the view of the park’s natural setting.
A steel mesh lining placed could not only create a lighter look and feel for the building, also provide a better air circulation and light to pass through the building.
