AIRPOART SPECIAL EXHIBITION
END OF THE EXILED
The exhibition will be set up in the airport terminal, telling the story of how difficult it is for refugees to take root in different places, hoping that after visiting the exhibition people can sympathize and be more concerned about Jordan's plight.
The overall image is drawn from the regular arrangement of refugee camps. Some crooked modules are meant to correspond to the emotional transformation when refugees were first in a new place. Gathered modules that place in the specific area in the exhibition are implying the reconstruction of a country system due to take in a considerable amount of refugees.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
The refugee camp is a combination of modules.
Each module is a carrier of refugee life.
The distortion or skewness of the module is a manifestation of the refugees' feeling. At the same time, it can create a sense of space different from only vertical and horizontal for the visitors.
The gathered of the module implies the reconstruction of a country system due to a considerable number of refugees.
STORY AREA
Oppression During The War
The use of crooked columns creates a sense of pressure in the space and the installation of translucent corridors to make the area more suffocating. The upward-slope of the floor can, on the other hand, strengthen the difficulty of walking. All the design here is hoping to make people want to speed up their escape from this area to imply the refugees' state of mind before leaving.
STORY AREA
Identity Confusion
Create a feeling of confusion and self-doubt by setting a vast amount of specular reflection.
STORY AREA
Looking Forward To The Future
The arrangement of the columns gradually loosened and gave way to the vast path to the end of the experience area, symbolizing that the life of the refugees will be smoother after all.
EXHIBITION CORRIDOR
The arrangement of those columns returns simplicity, creating a simple visual line (dotted line) from outside but in fact, walking in it is quite a tortuous (solid line), which symbolizes the difficulty in implementing the national refugee policy.
Relevant to the story, this area is also the main information exhibition area.
Using repeated modules but different composition plans to create a different visit experience in each area.
The slanted columns are densely arranged after the spacious entrance. The translucent corridors increase the sense of suffocation in the space, and the story starts to begin. The floor in this area is intentionally raised into an upward slope, which raises the difficulty for forwarding. The second area uses a specular reflection to create an atmosphere of confusion and self doubt, representing the anxiety of refugees who have just arrived in a new country. After going out of the mirror area, the dense columns will gradually be dispersed to give a smoother pathway to the exit. It symbolizes that the aim is to make the life of the refugees better after all. The outer flow of the story area is the exhibition corridor, the wall is used as a flat display, and the column can be cut in half to be a showcase in the middle.
FLOOR PLAN
Using the columns as a central image for the exhibition can also bring a benefit that makes the origin building structure invisible.
